2023 campaigns: Only PDP can tackle insecurity in Nigeria – Atiku

ASHENEWS reports that the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said that only the party can restore security in Nigeria.

Atiku stated this in Minna, Niger state when his campaign team landed for its presidential campaign held at the Trade Fair Complex on Saturday.

Atiku, who was accompanied by the vice presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa said that the impatience of Nigerians in demanding change during the 2015 elections birthed the insecurity which is currently affecting the country.

“The change you yearned for only brought about insecurity, and economic hardship among many other challenges.

“No one can restore peace if not for PDP. When PDP came into power from 1999 to 2015, there was no insecurity so if you vote for PDP again, the issue of insecurity will be a thing of the past.

“We also promise that the Baro port which we started will be completed. I want to also remind you that most of the schools, universities, roads, and hospitals in Niger state were built by the PDP. If so, let’s put it in mind that there is a difference between the two parties,” he said.

Also speaking, the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu while adding weight to Atiku’s comments, said that Nigerians made a mistake by voting the PDP out of power in the 2015 elections.

Commending party supporters in Niger state, Ayu said that the state has played a major role in the development of the party since its inception.

“Niger state contributed enormously to the growth of the PDP for the past 15 years,” he said.

Ayu noted that the people of Niger state needed to support the PDP as the state has suffered greatly under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Niger state has no business being poor as the biggest state in terms of landmass, with about 76,000 square kilometers, which is bigger than some countries in the world.

“But because of the APC, Niger state is almost the headquarters of poverty and insecurity. At a point, 10 out of the local government areas in Niger state were occupied by bandits and yet we had a governor that promised change, security, and development in Niger state,” he said.

The PDP National Chairman also formally received a former Deputy Governor of Niger state, Ahmed Ibeto who decamped from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
