The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) in Cross River state has endorsed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Sandy Onor, ahead of the rescheduled March 18 gubernatorial elections.
A statement by the chairman of the CUPP, Ntami Esege on Friday, said the decision was to team up and support the PDP candidate, who according to them, has the right credentials to lead the state to an enviable height.
The coalition made up of ADC, ZLP, AA, APGA, APP, APM, NRM, ADP, BP, and Accord said they decided to support Onor after a recent extra-ordinary meeting.
A few days back, Onor had also secured the endorsement of notable religious and sociocultural as well as political groups, including the Ejagham Stakeholders Forum, (ESHF), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and the Obi-Dients Movement.
“The decision to support the PDP candidate was arrived at, after a careful assessment of all the candidates with focus on competence, capacity and character.
“Onor’s antecedent placed him above every other candidate for the job of leading the state for the next four years.
“Conscious of what the state has gone through in the last eight years, we unanimously resolved to support a man with the right credentials to lead it to an enviable height,” the statement reads.
