The Niger State Ministry of Mineral Resources has appointed Umar Ango Kurebe as the Coordinator in charge of Solid Minerals in Shiroro Local Government Area.
In a letter dated March 10, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Comrade Idris Legbo, the appointment takes immediate effect.
According to the ministry, the appointment was based on Kurebe’s “perceived competence, integrity and commitment to duty.”
The letter stated that the coordinator will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating and monitoring all activities related to solid mineral operations within Shiroro LGA in line with existing laws, regulations and directives of the ministry.
As part of his responsibilities, Kurebe will monitor mining activities across the local government area and ensure compliance with government policies, operational guidelines and revenue directives.
He is also expected to liaise with relevant stakeholders, community leaders and security agencies where necessary, while submitting regular reports to the ministry on activities, challenges and progress recorded in the sector.
The ministry further noted that the coordinator may be assigned additional duties from time to time in line with the objectives of the state government.
Legbo urged the appointee to discharge his duties diligently, transparently and with a high sense of responsibility, adding that the appointment could be reviewed or withdrawn in accordance with government regulations.
