Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States (US) against deploying ground troops on its territory, as tensions escalate over reports of a possible American military incursion.
Iranian officials said any attempt by US forces to launch a ground invasion would trigger fierce retaliation, vowing that American troops would face severe consequences if they set foot on Iranian soil.
The warning comes amid a growing US military buildup in the Middle East, with thousands of troops and additional assets deployed to the region in recent days, fuelling speculation that Washington could be preparing for expanded operations.
While US officials have not confirmed plans for a full-scale invasion, defence sources indicate that the Pentagon is considering limited ground operations, including targeted raids on strategic Iranian sites such as coastal installations and key oil infrastructure.
Iran, however, views the troop movements as a precursor to a broader assault. Its leadership has accused Washington of pursuing military escalation under the cover of diplomatic engagement, warning that such actions would derail any ongoing peace efforts.
The crisis is unfolding against the backdrop of an intensifying regional conflict that has already seen missile exchanges, attacks on military assets, and disruptions to global energy routes. Strategic waterways, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, remain a flashpoint, with analysts warning that any ground confrontation could trigger wider instability across the Middle East.
Despite the rising tensions, the US administration has signalled that diplomacy remains an option, with officials suggesting that military objectives could be achieved without a large-scale ground invasion. However, the continued deployment of troops has heightened fears that the conflict could enter a more dangerous phase.
Analysts say the situation remains fluid, with both sides balancing between escalation and negotiation, even as the risk of a prolonged and more destructive war grows.
