China wants to work with Arab states to help de-escalate the conflict between Israel and Hamas, President Xi Jinping told Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly in Beijing.
His country is ready to coordinate with Egypt and other Arab countries to find a joint, just and long-lasting solution to the “Palestinian issue,” Xi said on Thursday.
A “ceasefire and an end to the war” are top priorities as well as a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent state of Palestine is the “fundamental way” out of the crisis, he added.
The conflict should not be allowed to expand further, the Chinese leader stressed, while welcoming Egypt’s efforts to open a humanitarian corridor to supply civilians in the Gaza Strip.
In spite the unprecedented onslaught Hamas launched against Israel on Oct. 7 that killed more than 1,400 of its citizens, China has avoided condemning the Islamist organisation.
Beijing merely called on all parties to exercise restraint, while state television reports focused extensively on Israel’s retaliatory airstrikes on Gaza and on Palestinian casualties.
