JAP interaction with LG UNICEF Consultant, NTRC in Sokoto South LG

By Abdallah el-Kurebe

Sokoto state government in collaboration with Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have created special teams to capture missed children during the Immunization Plus Days (IPDs) at strategic locations across the state.

The special teams include Ardo, which target Fulani itinerant settlements and those that target children in hospitals and markets. These are in addition to house to house teams, health camps, fixed posts and other special teams.

In Sokoto South local government, Ardo teams, supported by CDC were posted to Gagi A, Gagi B and Gagi C, which are strategic routes to target children of the itinerant nomadic Fulani for immunization.

JAP found out that there are four hospital and market teams each posted to strategic markets and hospitals within the local government. These are in addition to the 107 house to house and 37 special teams.

Compared to Day One of the March round, which recorded 21 cases of non compliances, JAP findings reveal that Day One of the May round recorded 14 non compliances.

Most of the non compliances are religion-based against which Qur’anic Mallams and Village Community Mobilizers were playing vital roles.
