The Nigerian Navy Provost Regulating School Makurdi on Thursday offered free medical services to residents of Kanshio Community in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Commandant, Commodore Suleiman Abdullahi, who flagged off the medical outreach, said the exercise targeted 1,000 beneficiaries.
Abdullahi explained that the gesture was in appreciation of the Kanshio Community’s overwhelming support for the school.
He described the outreach as part of the Navy’s civil-military relations efforts with host communities and one of several ways to express gratitude for their continued cooperation.
Abdullahi noted that the Navy has enjoyed a cordial relationship with the people since the school’s establishment in the community.
“This exercise is part of the civil-military relations activities of the school geared towards strengthening relationships with its host community,” he said.
“We carry out many activities to encourage the host community to continue supporting the activities of the Nigerian Navy Provost Regulating School, Makurdi.
“As the saying goes, health is wealth. Health is important to us, and we need the people to be very healthy to continue supporting our activities.
“The Navy barracks is domiciled here in Kanshio, and since its existence, we have enjoyed a robust and cordial relationship with the people, which has helped promote our activities here,” he added.
Earlier, the Medical Officer, Lt. Misi Manaseh, said the team was providing free tests for body mass index, blood pressure, blood sugar, malaria, hepatitis B and C, as well as weight management tips.
Manaseh added that free medication would be dispensed for malaria, diabetes, hypertension, ulcers, and other common ailments during the outreach.
Speaking to reporters, community leader Mr. Peter Ejeh commended the Navy for bringing quality, free medical services directly to their doorsteps.
The outreach reflects the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong civil-military relations, improving community health, and sustaining harmonious coexistence with host communities in Benue State.
