The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a businesswoman for attempting to smuggle 1.40 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in her underwear at the Lagos Airport.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said on Sunday that the suspect, identified as Ebere, was caught on September 14 while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to Doha. She was apprehended at Terminal 2 by Aviation Security officers of FAAN in collaboration with NDLEA operatives.
A search uncovered two parcels of white crystalline substance hidden in her butt-pad underwear, which tested positive for meth. During interrogation, she claimed to be a dealer in second-hand clothes and a POS operator in Enugu, where she was allegedly recruited into drug trafficking.
At the NAHCO export shed, NDLEA operatives also intercepted food items concealing 40 wraps of meth weighing 2.30 kg en route to Hong Kong via Turkish Airlines. A 59-year-old man who presented the cargo has been detained.
Similarly, a shipment of phone chargers heading to New Zealand was intercepted at a courier firm in Lagos on September 18. The chargers were found to contain 257 grams of cocaine.
In Edo State, NDLEA operatives destroyed two cannabis farms at Atororo Forest, Owan West Local Government Area. The farms, with an estimated yield of 11,330 kg, also contained 11 bags of processed skunk and seeds weighing 148 kg. Three suspects were arrested.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), hailed the seizures as a major step in dismantling drug cartels targeting Nigeria’s youth. He urged operatives to sustain the agency’s aggressive but balanced approach to the fight against illicit drugs.
