The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has called for increased investment in the well-being of women and children as a foundation for building a healthier and more sustainable Nigeria.
Adeyeye made the appeal during NAFDAC’s 2026 International Women’s Day celebration in Abuja, held under the global theme “Give to Gain.” The event honoured the dedication and contributions of NAFDAC staff, particularly women, to public health and regulatory excellence.
A statement issued to journalists on Sunday in Abuja by NAFDAC Resident Media Consultant, Olusayo Akintola, described the celebration as a platform to recognize staff commitment while reflecting on the pivotal role women play in strengthening healthcare systems and advancing community well-being nationwide.
The gathering brought together NAFDAC personnel and stakeholders to highlight women’s leadership, innovation, and service in improving public health outcomes and supporting national development goals.
Adeyeye emphasized that women and children remain central to Nigeria’s future health and prosperity, urging that their well-being be treated as a top national development priority.
She underscored women’s resilience and invaluable contributions within institutions like NAFDAC, which safeguard lives through the regulation of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and other regulated products.
The DG specifically referenced the NAFDAC Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Initiative, launched in November 2025, as a practical demonstration of the agency’s commitment to this cause.
She reiterated that sustained investment in women and children must remain integral to Nigeria’s broader development agenda.
Mrs. Joan Agbaagu, Head of the Reforms Unit at NAFDAC, reinforced the message, stating that the theme “Give to Gain” perfectly captures the essence of selfless service and collective dedication to improving the health of mothers, women, and children across the country.
The event served as both a celebration of women’s achievements within NAFDAC and a renewed call to prioritise maternal and child health as key drivers of national progress and resilience.
