The Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Lagos branch, has restated its mandate to improve health and well-being of populace, especially women, youths, and children.
President of the MWAN Lagos branch, Dr. Ibironke Sodeinde made the assertion at a media briefing held in Lagos.
She said that the organization will hold its 23rd biennial conference in Lagos.
Speaking, Sodeinde said that MWAN, Lagos branch, was inaugurated in 1977 with the motto “Matris Animo Currant” meaning “Healing with the Love of a Mother”.
“Our mandate basically is to improve the health and well-being of the populace,especially women, youths, and children.
“Our association has witnessed 22 biennial conferences with a change of leadership every two years, with different themes based on the prevailing circumstances and pressing issues of concern at every particular point in time,” she said.
The president said that the theme for the conference would be “Investing in the Health, Education, and Wellbeing of Adolescents and Young Adults”.
She said that the sub-themes included “Workplace Safety and Welfare of Health Professionals, “Potentials for Al in Dentistry and Medicine,” and “Tackling Climate Change and Conserving the Environment.”
Sodeinde said that the subthemes were very appropriate because they showcased diversity and inclusiveness for different age groups and different fields of medicine.
It is also taking into consideration the concerns for the well-being of workers and the sensitivity for appropriate responsiveness to the environment.
She said that they had all passed through this milestone as adolescents and young adults, stressing that the youth of today are definitely the future elders and responsible leaders of tomorrow.
