The Lagos State Government has unveiled a three-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening the state’s response to HIV through improved prevention, testing, treatment and long-term care.

The 2025–2027 HIV Strategic Plan, unveiled by the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), is designed to coordinate HIV programmes, resources and partnerships while addressing existing gaps in the state’s response ahead of 2027.

Chief Executive Officer of LSACA, Dr Folakemi Animashaun, said the plan provides a framework for achieving measurable results by 2027 and ensuring that interventions are better coordinated across the state.

According to her, Lagos has made progress in HIV prevention, testing, treatment and community-based interventions, but challenges remain, particularly in reaching underserved populations.

She identified expanding prevention and testing services, linking people living with the scourge to treatment, retaining patients in care and achieving viral suppression as key areas requiring sustained attention.

Animashaun said the plan’s dissemination provided an opportunity for stakeholders to assess progress, identify gaps and refocus their efforts towards meeting the targets set for 2027.

She also pledged that LSACA would continue to coordinate the state’s response, mobilise resources and monitor implementation while promoting evidence-based decision-making.

The LSACA boss stressed that sustained collaboration among government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, communities and healthcare providers would be critical to achieving a stronger and more sustainable HIV response in Lagos.

She commended the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), government ministries, development partners, civil society organisations, communities and healthcare workers for their contributions to the state’s HIV response.

The strategic plan is expected to guide HIV interventions across Lagos over the next three years, with emphasis on expanding access to prevention, testing, treatment and long-term care for people living with HIV.
