The Katsina State Government says it has conducted free eye surgeries for no fewer than 1,000 less-privileged patients, through support from the Darrul Imara Charity Foundation and Endowment, Kano.
The Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Health, Hauwa Isha, who disclosed this in a statement in Katsina on Sunday, said the exercise was the second phase.
According to her, the exercise was successfully carried out at the Old Market Eye Hospital in Katsina from February 7 to 11, 2026.
She further explained, “All medical procedures were completed successfully without any complications.
“However, the Commissioner for Health, Hamza Suleiman-Funtua, has received a complaint on social media, in which an individual alleged that some hospital staff engaged in inappropriate conduct during the exercise.
“In response, the ministry had established an investigative committee under the leadership of the Permanent Secretary, Dr Lawal Aliyu-Rabe, to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action.”
She said that the ministry assured the public that the investigation would be conducted with fairness and transparency.
According to her, all necessary measures will be taken to protect the integrity of the ministry and ensure the provision of quality healthcare services in the state.
