A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Katsina State, Latifat Yusuf-Bola, has distributed free delivery and baby care kits to about 80 less privileged pregnant women in the state.
The distribution was carried out in Katsina during an awareness campaign and antenatal sensitisation programme on maternal and child health organised by the corps member.
Yusuf-Bola explained that the gesture, carried out as part of her Community Development Service (CDS) project, targeted pregnant women receiving care at Turai Yar’adua Women and Children Hospital and the General Hospital Katsina.
According to her, the initiative was inspired by a painful experience she witnessed at a hospital, where a pregnant woman lost her babies due to the lack of essential delivery materials.
“I once witnessed a heartbreaking incident where a pregnant woman was left unattended during labour because she could not afford the required delivery kits, which sadly led to the loss of her babies,” she said.
She explained that the incident motivated and strengthened her resolve to embark on the humanitarian project to support expectant mothers and prevent similar tragedies.
“With the support of kind-hearted people, we were able to successfully carry out this project. I pray for safe delivery and good health for all the beneficiaries and their unborn children,” she added.
Yusuf-Bola noted that the programme was organised in collaboration with Hillside Charitable Foundation and Purelife Foundation, aimed at improving maternal and child health among vulnerable women.
She commended the partners and donors for their support, describing their contributions as a demonstration of compassion and commitment to community development.
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Ibrahim Sai’du, commended the corps member for her initiative, describing it as impactful and life-saving.
Represented by an NYSC official, Aliyu Sani, the coordinator urged other corps members to emulate Yusuf-Bola by initiating projects that address critical needs within their host communities.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Hillside Royal Suite, Muttaka Badru-Abubakar, praised the corps member for her compassion and dedication to humanitarian service.
He called on members of the public to support similar initiatives, noting that meaningful impact did not necessarily require great wealth but genuine concern for humanity.
Badru-Abubakar further applauded the NYSC scheme in Katsina for fostering community-oriented projects and contributing to the overall development of society.
