Kaduna State has officially introduced the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine into its routine immunization schedule, reinforcing its commitment to reducing vaccine-preventable childhood illnesses and deaths.
The announcement was made during a high-level stakeholders’ engagement hosted by the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board at Silver Sand Hotel on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
The event gathered traditional and religious leaders, health professionals, donor partners, wives of local government chairmen, and other critical stakeholders to rally support for the successful rollout of the MR vaccine across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadeeza Balarabe, emphasized the importance of immunization as both a moral duty and a public health necessity. She called on all sectors of society to work together to ensure that no child is left unprotected.
“The integration of the Measles-Rubella vaccine into our routine immunization marks a significant step in our effort to protect children and prevent needless deaths. We must act collectively to ensure every child has access to this life-saving vaccine,” she stated.
The engagement also featured the First Lady of the state, who showed support by distributing crocks and scrubs to frontline health workers. Participants reviewed recent data showing a decline in measles cases but noted that unvaccinated children remain at the highest risk.
The forum ended with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to sustain immunization efforts and eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases in Kaduna State.
