The Medical Director of the National Orthopedic Hospital (NOH), Jos, Prof. Icha Onche, has announced that the newly established hospital has commenced full operations.
Onche disclosed this on Wednesday in Jos during an interactive session with journalists.
He said the hospital, established in 2023, began operations on May 13, 2025, by attending to outpatients and has so far provided services to 736 outpatients since inception.
The Medical Director said the facility would, from October 8, commence full-scale operations, including admitting inpatients, conducting surgeries, and providing emergency medical care, particularly for trauma cases involving the limbs and spine.
According to him, the hospital’s services are purely orthopedic, in line with its mandate.
He listed the services to include adult reconstructive procedures, hip and knee arthroplasty, limb lengthening and reconstruction, management of bone gaps and fractures, as well as spine surgeries.
“The hospital will also offer physiotherapy, pediatric orthopedic services, arthroscopy, sports medicine, and prosthetic and orthotic services,” he said.
Onche noted that the hospital’s capacity to conduct complex surgical procedures such as hip, shoulder, and knee replacements would help reduce medical tourism.
Earlier in his goodwill message, the Chief Medical Director of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, commended Prof. Onche for the progress recorded and assured him of JUTH’s continued support.
The National Orthopedic Hospital, Jos, established in 2023, was created to provide specialized orthopedic care and transform lives through high-quality musculoskeletal services.
