Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that is produced in the liver and works throughout the body in cells, tissues, and fluids to detoxify free radicals created from oxygen known as reactive oxygen species (ROS). It simply acts as powerful detoxifier and free – radical quencher.
When one is exposed to high levels of toxins, glutathione is depleted faster than it can be reproduced, setting the stage for toxin – induced diseases, including cancer. Glutathione can be synthesized from three amino acids; cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine.
~ Glutathione can be obtained from food by consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, cooked fish, and meats.
Major Food Sources.
•√ Avocado, Asparagus and watermelon; (per ordinary serving, this trio contains the most glutathione based on analysis of most fruits and vegetables).
•√ Other foods highest in glutathione include: fresh grapefruit and oranges, strawberries, fresh peaches, okra, white potatoes, squash, cauliflower, broccoli, and raw tomatoes.
•√ Some meats, particularly boiled ham ,lean chops, and veal cutlets, also have moderately high amounts of glutathione.
~Glutathione is an important anti cancer agent, scientific studies indicates that glutathione can deactivate at least thirty cancer- causing substances. The compound prevents lipid peroxidation and acts as enzyme to deactivate free radicals, thus it offer potential protection against heart diseases, cataracts and asthma ,as well as cancer and other diseases linked to free- radical damage.
~ Glutathione also helps block damage from toxic compounds such as environmental pollutants by detoxifying them in the body.
•√ Only fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables have high concentrations of glutathione,..that canned and processed foods typically had fewer as much of the potent antioxidant as fresh and frozen variety.
•√Cooking and grinding up or juicing foods also destroys some glutathione.
