The Nigerian Navy on Thursday commissioned and handed over a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Mullah, Hyema Community, Hong Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State, aimed at improving access to healthcare services.
The project was executed under the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, designed to strengthen civil-military cooperation and support community development.
Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, the Chief of Naval Staff, who was represented by Rear Adm. Adamu Yahaya, said the initiative reflects the Navy’s commitment to national development beyond safeguarding lives and property.
“Civil-military cooperation promotes collaboration between the Armed Forces and host communities to achieve sustainable peace and development,” he said.
Abbas explained that the Special Quick Intervention Project, launched in 2024, also honors distinguished senior officers of the Nigerian Navy.
“These projects are avenues for the Navy to recognize its accomplished officers and demonstrate commitment to serving Nigerians through other means,” he added.
The healthcare facility in Mullah, facilitated by Rear Adm. Kohath Levi, an indigence of the community, includes a maternity ward, general ward, consultation room, pharmacy, laboratory, and a solar-powered borehole. Abbas noted that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and urged residents to use and protect the facility responsibly.
Levi said the project was conceived to address challenges in accessing quality healthcare in rural communities.
“The Quick Impact Project offered an opportunity to bridge the gap in basic healthcare delivery, and it was prioritized for our community,” he said. Levi added that the facility is powered by a 6.5-horsepower solar inverter to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Mr. Zirra Bubanani, commended the Chief of Naval Staff for his visionary leadership and praised Levi for facilitating the project. He said the PHC would reduce preventable illnesses, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and bring affordable healthcare closer to residents.
A community representative, Mr. Matthew Bala, thanked the Nigerian Navy and pledged to protect and maintain the facility for present and future generations.
