Winners of the inaugural Bago Essay Writing Competition were yesterday unveiled on the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day celebration.
The competition is meant to promote creativity among secondary school students in the state.
15-year-old Ahmed Ndawunchi from Sauki International School in Bida, who came first place in the competition, received a laptop.
The second-place winner, 12-year-old Ajiboye Faith, was awarded a mini tablet, while the third-place winner, 16-year-old Khadijat Mohammed, received an Android phone.
The governor-elect equally donated 2 million nairas in prize money which will be shared among the contestants.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, the Governor-elect, Mohammed Umar Bago said that the essay competition would be held quarterly to encourage students to enhance their writing skills.
He said that the winner of the next competition would serve as the governor for a day, while anyone who wins twice would receive a car as a prize.
The governor-elect, who emphasized the importance of basic education, announced plans to make it compulsory for every child in the state.
He pledged to support the introduction of vocational skills, especially for female students in the state.
He stated that the state would allocate funds toward providing a quality education system that would produce highly skilled professionals and well-rounded graduates.
