Cross River governor, Prince Bassey Otu, says his administration will not concentrate on appointments, rather will build individuals through skills acquisition.
Otu stated this Wednesday, when he received the Forum of past and present Students Union government leaders, Cross River chapter, in Calabar.
“Appointments are going to come very soon, I believe that probably some of you here might also have, but we are not going to concentrate on appointments so much this time.
“We want to build the nation, we want to build the individual, we want to build the youths, so, more emphasis will be on people that are going to use their hands to do things.
“People that are ready for new skills, people that are entrepreneurs, we are ready to support you all the way to make sure that we change the economy of our state,” the governor stated.
Otu who maintained that his administration is battle ready for the task of turning things around for the betterment of the state, assured that he is not unmindful of the expectations of students, the younger ones and the society at large.
Encouraging youngsters to remain steadfast and responsive during harsh economy period, the governor went philosophical.
“Times are very tough but when times are tough like this, the strongest of the tough gets going because if it is not like this, history will not know that there is a particular generation that changed the narrative,” Otu advised.
Earlier, convener and leader of the Forum, Prof. Francisca Bassey, informed that they were before the governor and his deputy, Rt Hon Peter Odey, to congratulate them on their victory and to reassure them of their willingness to bridge the gap between the office of the governor and youths in the state.
“We pledge our support throughout your tenure and our continuous support for our state because this is our only state.
“We don’t want to regret tomorrow like King Solomon did when he said my own vineyard I have not kept, we will keep our own vineyard, we will do all it takes to support you while ensuring that there is firmness in support as well as proper interface between the youths and the state,” Bassey assured.
Highpoint of the event was induction of the governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, as a member of the body having served as President, National Association of Cross River State Students (NACRISS) worldwide.
