The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has delivered 50 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nigeria, aimed at supporting victims of recent flooding across the country.
The relief materials were received by officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Office of the National Security Adviser at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Alshamsi, handed over the aid on behalf of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Al Nahyan.
Speaking during the handover, Ambassador Alshamsi highlighted the UAE’s commitment to assisting nations affected by natural disasters, emphasizing the country’s ongoing support for humanitarian causes worldwide.
The Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Dunoma, expressed gratitude on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, acknowledging the strong ties between the two countries.
He commended the UAE for its timely intervention, which will provide much-needed relief to those impacted by the floods.
Similarly, NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, appreciated the UAE government for the assistance, noting that the relief materials would complement ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government to provide support to flood victims and help them recover from the devastation.
