President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Professor Abdullahi Mustapha’s reappointment as the Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) for a second five-year term.
The reappointment was confirmed in a letter from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
It takes effect on October 31, 2024, in accordance with Sections 10 (1) and (3) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022.
Industry experts view this reappointment as a sign of President Tinubu’s confidence in Professor Mustapha’s leadership and his ability to advance Nigeria’s goals in biotechnology.
His work is pivotal in achieving food security, enhancing pharmaceutical production, and positioning Nigeria as a leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
A Professor of Bioinorganic Chemistry from Dambatta, Kano State, Professor Mustapha brings a wealth of academic and industry experience, which he is expected to leverage to further strengthen biotechnology’s role in national development.
