Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, also the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), on Monday, presided over the eighth meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) in Dutse, Jigawa State.
The high-level meeting brought together prominent traditional rulers from across the 19 northern states to deliberate on pressing regional challenges, including insecurity, poverty, youth unemployment, education, and community development. The gathering also served as a platform for strengthening collaboration between traditional institutions and government at all levels.
The meeting was hosted by the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, and attended by emirs, chiefs, and other traditional leaders from across Northern Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Sultan stressed the critical role of traditional rulers in promoting peace, stability, and social cohesion within their communities. He urged greater cooperation among stakeholders in addressing the security and socio-economic challenges confronting the region.
The Northern Traditional Rulers Council has in recent years consistently advocated stronger action against insecurity and poverty, while promoting initiatives aimed at improving education, social welfare, and economic development across the North. At previous meetings, the council had expressed concern over persistent violence and called for collective efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
The outcome of the Jigawa meeting is expected to produce fresh recommendations and resolutions that will be forwarded to relevant authorities to support ongoing efforts at addressing the region’s developmental and security challenges.
