Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambuwal, has described the state’s working relationship with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as impactful, saying the Fund’s handwriting in the state, is written in gold.
Tambuwal, represented by the deputy governor, Manir Dan’Iya stated this when he received the retiring UNICEF Chief of Field Office, Mohammedeen Fall at Government House, Sokoto on Saturday.
According to the governor, UNICEF is still serving its purpose in the state as an agency responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children.
“Having Mr. Fall as Chief of Field Office, has exposed Sokoto to so much of UNICEF humanitarian assistance, which include ensuring the survival, protection and development of children as well as universal development imperatives, such as girl- child education and women empowerment; that are integral to human progress,” he said.
He described international development partners operating in Sokoto as “key stakeholders in shaping and making the society a beneficial place for all,” while expressing appreciation to Mr Fall for his services to the state.
In his farewell remarks, Mr Fall expressed gratitude to the government and people of Sokoto state over the support and cooperation he received during the years he spent while working in Sokoto and Nigeria.
He outlined UNICEF’s mission as the mobilization and empowerment of Nigerians to invest in the positive transformation of every child’s future in education, healthcare and empowerment.
Fall personally thanked Tambuwal for his listening ear anytime he came calling.
He also described Sokoto as a blessed state in Nigeria with the governor and Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, at the helm of affairs of the Caliphate.
