The President Rotary Club of Bauchi Central Rotarian Pam Dauda has reiterated the club’s commitment to ensuring that the state, remains polio-free.
He spoke on Tuesday at the Government House shortly after a 3-kilometer walk from the Palace of the Emir of Bauchi to commemorate 2023 World Polio Day.
Dauda said poliomyelitis is a disease that is preventable by vaccination of children from 0-59 months noting that the walk was to re-emphasize the need for parents to vaccinate their children.
“Many are in wheelchairs today because of rejection of the vaccination, so we must sustain the gains of a polio-free status.”
He therefore encouraged parents to ensure that all their U-5 children receive the monthly polio vaccination against the disease stressing that, it is only by so doing that they can be protected against it.
To the polio victims, they encouraged them to use their situation positively by becoming Ambassadors for the eradication of polio in the state.
Rotary Club of Bauchi Central Polio Representative, Rotarian Chukwunonso Nwobi said that Rotary International has remained the champion of polio eradication globally including Nigeria and Bauchi State.
He said that the Rotary Club of Bauchi Central would ensure that every required attention was given to the maintenance of the polio-free status of the country and by extension, Bauchi State.
Nwobi expressed happiness with the turnout of polio victims who joined in the 3-kilometer walk from the Emir’s Palace to the Government House amidst dancing and singing saying that it is a demonstration of their accepting their conditions and moving forward.
The participants in the walk passed through Nassarawa Street, CBN roundabout, Yakubun Bauchi Road, and terminated at the Government House.
