Rotary club of Abuja CBD has charged the newly inaugurated board of Interact Club to shun social media vices.
The 2023-2025 club President, Mrs Katherine Adamu made the call at a joint fellowship and inauguration of Board of Interact Club of Army Day Secondary School (ADSS), Asokoro on Friday in Abuja.
Adamu urged the students to shun drug abuse and embrace virtues that will allow them reach their potentials and impact the nation’s development.
She noted the negative behaviours being exhibited in the society and urged members of the club to set good examples for emulation in schools, communities and the society, for the overall benefit of the country.
According to her, the inauguration of the new board of interact club is to prepare them for leadership positions and their career paths.
She said that it was to inculcate in them the need for service to humanity, which will make the society a better place free from societal ills.
“We are expecting good leadership from them. We want them to be good leaders in school, their communities and anywhere they go.
“They should make sure that there is transparency, orderliness and hardwork because we can see that most of them are lacking such virtues.
“This Interact Club will help them, mold them, talk to them, teach them that in a society, you should always behave well. Do the right things not just for you, but also for the community and humanity,” she said.
Also, the past President of the club and Assistant Governor, District 9127, Mr Martins Odeh urged the students to be focused and not be influenced by the “get rich quick” syndrome that is prevalent in the society.
Odeh also advised them to champion good courses that will distinguish them from others and make them exemplary leaders, wherever they find themselves.
He said that the club had impacted in the areas of health and education for indigent persons, communities and the country at large.
“It is an obligation on us to set up an interact club.
“This is what Rotary International needs from us. So what you see happening here today is a leadership change, an election that brought in the new interact president,” he said.
The Principal, ADSS, Odenigbo Daniel expressed appreciation to the club for their humanitarian services, which will impact positively in the lives of the students and shape them to become better citizens in the society.
“There is no doubt that what you are doing today is service to humanity and catching them young in upholding the values of the club, which will be impacted in the society,” she said.
The newly elected President of the interact club in the school, Odenigbo Daniel affirmed his commitment to upholding the values of the club and cascading it to other students and youths.
