The Rotary Club of Bauchi Central has staged a walk to commemorate this year’s World Polio Day.
Those that participated in the walk included polio survivors, Rotarians from Rotary Club of Bauchi state and Rotractors from ATBU.
They carried placards and marched from the palace of the Emir through Nasarawa gate to the Government House.
Receiving the group, state first lady, Aisha Mohammed said though Nigeria had been certified polio-free, there is need to continue with immunization and surveillance.
“We are happy that Bauchi is continuing with the monthly immunization plus days; that will sustained the gains achieved”.
She commended Rotary International for their support to the fight against polio through the provision of vaccines.
The Executive Chairman State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said Rotary has been in the fore front of providing vaccines for polio immunization.
President, Rotary Club Bauchi Central, Chukwu Nwobi said the walk is to celebrate the successes recorded in the campaign against wild polio virus that led to Nigeria been polio free.
“Rotary is a humanitarian organisation that works to save lives through free will donation”
He called for caregivers to continue to avail their children under five years of age to be immunised.
State polio rep, Dauda Pam said the monthly immunization should be sustained.
