On Wednesday night, President Bola Tinubu suspended the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa.
The statement, issues by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Director of Information, Willie Bassey, did not state explicit reasons for for Bawa’s suspension.
ASHENEWS however reports that the suspended chairman’s travails may not be too far from his inquiry about some information on President Tinubu to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) when he was the Lagos Zonal head of the Commission.
Bawa had, through a letter with reference No. CR: 3000/EFCC/LS/CMU/TAF/VOL.4/322, and dated 6, November, 2020, written to the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau.
In the letter obtained by Peoples Gazette, titled: “RE INVESTIGATION”, and personally signed by Bawa, was seeking information on “BOLA AHMED ADEKUNLE TINUDU” and one other person.
The letter was making reference to previous correspondence between the EFCC and the CCB.
“This Commission’s letter CR3000/EFCCLS/CMU/TAF/VOL. 3/337 dated 4h September, 2020 (copy attached] and your response CCB/HQ/FPOD/WF/12021/1\/265 dated 9h October, 2020 on the above subject refers.
“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to furnish the Commission with the outstanding requested information of Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu.
“This request is made pursuant to Section 38 (1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.
“While treating as very urgent, accept the assurances of the acting Executive Chairman’s highest regards, please,” the letter reads.
