The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Katsina State has cautioned staff and corps members against immoral conduct, urging them to uphold discipline and the ideals of the scheme.
NYSC State Coordinator Mr. Okor Evans gave the warning on Friday in Katsina during a road walk to mark the scheme’s 53rd anniversary.
He commended the staff for their dedication, hard work, and ethical conduct, describing them as dynamic and committed to the objectives of the scheme.
Evans urged them to remain loyal to the organisation’s vision, noting that the NYSC has remained at the forefront of campaigns against social vices for 53 years.
He described the NYSC as a critical institution for promoting national unity, peaceful coexistence, and community development across Nigeria.
According to him, the scheme’s survival for over five decades despite economic and security challenges reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to national integration and youth development.
“Celebrating a scheme that has served Nigerians for 53 years is no small feat,” he said.
Evans recalled that the NYSC remains one of the most enduring institutions established by the former military administration due to its relevance to nation-building.
He explained that the scheme strengthens national unity by deploying graduates to states other than their places of origin.
“Corps members continue to make meaningful impacts in communities nationwide, particularly in rural areas,” he added.
“There is hardly any remote community in Nigeria that has not witnessed the impact of NYSC. Wherever you go, you will see the scheme’s signature.”
The coordinator noted that corps members are contributing immensely to education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development.
He said governments at all levels continue to support the scheme because of its value to national growth and peaceful coexistence.
Evans expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through collective commitment to unity, discipline, and development.
He also commended corps members serving in Katsina State for their dedication and contributions to their host communities.
The anniversary walk took participants through major roads in Katsina metropolis, including the Barhim Roundabout, before ending at the NYSC Secretariat.
The event attracted corps members, NYSC officials, and other stakeholders.
