The management of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun, says the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved its application for College of Food Agricultural Science and Technology (COLFAST).

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Ota, adding that the new college would take off in the 2023/2024 academic session.

The vice-chancellor said this would enable the institution contribute to the agricultural sector and also key into the vision of the promoter of the institution, former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo.

“This is a remarkable milestone for the university as the COLFAST would be tuition free,” he said.

According to Ojediran, the University is now ranked within the 51-60 belt on the Times Higher Education rankings.

He said two students of the College of Engineering – Toluwanmi Oyegunle and Olatunde David – participated in and won the 6th CODET South-West Competition in the single and group categories.

The VC said a team of engineers/lecturers from the College of Engineering, also took the institution to greater heights by winning the 4th edition of the National Committee of Dean’s of Engineering and  Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET) Public Competition 2023.

Ojediran also said 37 students bagged First Class Honours, 195 students made second Class Upper, while 178 bagged second Class Lower.

He said 38 students would be awarded degrees in the Third Class Division at the forthcoming 15th convocation.

He added that 191 postgraduate, 295 Direct Entry (Top Up) students and 448 undergraduates would be graduating across the four Colleges of the institution on Nov. 4.
