The Federal Government will spend N400 billion on the planned 2023 National Census.

The Head, of the NPC Public Affairs Department in Plateau State, Jick Lawrence stated this today in Jos, the state capital during a one-day capacity-building workshop for journalists on effective reporting of the census.

Lawrence said that the Commission has spent about N100 billion in preparations for the exercise.

“Over N400 billion has been earmarked to be expended on the 2023 census.

“About N100 billion has so far been expended on preparations ahead of the exercise, the census is a very big and capital-intensive exercise,” he said.

He said that about 1.5 million Nigerians would be empowered with grants ranging from N100,000 to N150,00 during the exercise.

Part of the fund would also go to the procurement of 56,000 vehicles to aid the movement of personnel and materials as well as 800,000 Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to assist personnel.

Lawrence noted that the exercise would play an important role in the development of Nigeria.
