ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago says that the state government is planning to employ 1,500 youth as forest guards across all parts of the state.
Bago stated this on Tuesday when he met with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Niger state chapter.
Bago, who lauded the efforts of the vigilante groups in supporting conventional security agencies in tackling insecurity in the state said that the government was committed to improving their welfare.
He disclosed that the state government has procured equipment for the corps as an encouragement and to enable them to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.
In his remark, the Commander of the Vigilante Corps, Alhassan Mohammed DSP Rtd, appealed for synergy between the corps and other security agencies.
Mohammed maintained that the corps has the requisite skills to complement the efforts of the conventional security agencies in combating banditry in the state.
