Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has donated N250 million to New Gate University as an endowment fund, supporting the institution’s growth and development.
The announcement was made during the commissioning of several new projects at the university, including the Informatics and Innovation Complex, the Abdulkadir Kure Auditorium, and the Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu Library.
Of the total donation, N100 million is on behalf of Governor Bago’s family and the late Engineer Abdulkadir Kure, while N150 million is from the Niger State Government.
This significant contribution is aimed at supporting the university’s educational initiatives and infrastructure.
Additionally, Governor Bago announced scholarships for 50 top medical students from New Gate University.
These students will have the opportunity to study abroad in countries including Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, and India, through partnerships secured by the state government.
The governor emphasized the importance of education in advancing the state’s development, highlighting agriculture as a key sector for growth.
He urged New Gate University to establish a Department of Agriculture to align with the state’s economic focus while encouraging the Board of Trustees to continue expanding the institution.
“We are committed to making Niger State the Massachusetts of Nigeria, and education is central to that vision,” Governor Bago stated, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to transforming the state’s educational landscape.
Vice Chancellor of New Gate University, Prof. Sadiq Yusuf, praised the governor’s generosity and stressed the importance of the newly inaugurated facilities in improving the institution’s capacity to deliver quality education.
The Pro-Chancellor, Hassan Nuhu, also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing graduates equipped to contribute to the growth and development of both Niger State and the nation.
In their remarks, representatives of Former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and Former Governor Dr. Mu’azu Babangida commended the university’s management for its dedication to educational progress and assured continued support for its growth.
