The Niger State Government and the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) have assured of its determination to partner in providing affordable housing for Niger residents.
The Niger state governor, Mohammed Bago stated this when he hosted the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, of the Federal Housing Authority, Mr Oyetunde Ojo at the Government House, in Minna.
The governor said that the state government through the partnership will provide the needed land for the Authority in any part of the state at no cost.
He said that the agreement with the Federal Housing Authority will help the state government in achieving some of its ambitions which includes a tripartite arrangement for the construction of many housing estates between now and 2027.
This is in addition to the proposed relocation of communities affected by the construction of hydro dams in the state, as well as the state government’s plan to construct houses in farm estates and housing for workers at the Special Agro-Processing Free Zone.
The governor therefore directed the state Ministries of Lands and Survey; Housing and Urban Renewal; Power and Renewable Energy, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs among other related Ministries to work closely with the Federal Housing Authority to ensure that the partnership with the State to fruition.
On his part, the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Mr Oyetunde Ojo said that the state government would be involved in the entire process of the project to ensure due diligence.
The Managing Director explained that the housing project would be in three layers for the low, middle and upper class pointing out that the state government would provide data on beneficiaries.
The MD who said that the beneficiaries would pay for the houses in instalments between five and ten years added that the Housing Authority also intends to have a Diaspora City and project and provision of security wherever their projects are sited.
