Abbas Bamalli, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent in Katsina, was on Friday sworn in as Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council.
Aminu Garba-Dandagoro of Katsina State Television was sworn in as Chairman, while Auwal Halliru of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Katsina, emerged as Vice Chairman.
Other executive members include Yunusa Umar of Companion FM as Assistant Secretary, Shehu Abubakar of Katsina State Radio as Treasurer, Hamidu Sabo of Blueprint Newspaper as Financial Secretary, and Yasir Abubakar of State Television as Internal Auditor.
Speaking at the inauguration, NUJ National President, Mr Alhassan Yahya-Abdul, represented by the Vice President, North-West Zone, Tukur Muhammad, congratulated the new executives on their emergence through consensus.
He urged them to foster unity, mutual understanding, and professionalism among members while adhering strictly to the union’s ethics and constitution.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Garba-Dandagoro, expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in the team and promised to accommodate all shades of opinion.
He pledged to work with all members to move the council to greater heights and prioritised the welfare and well-being of journalists in the state.
The immediate past Acting Chairman, Isma’il Adamu, and the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Abdullahi Tanko, urged the new leadership to unite members and pursue noble goals for the union.
