The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in collaboration with the Arewa Youth Forum For Liberty (AYFL), conferred the prestigious “Icon of Humanitarian Service” award on Ibrahim Ridwan, an esteemed Abuja-based businessman, on Saturday. Additionally, Ridwan was honoured with the title ‘Garkuwan Matasan Arewa’ (The Mayor of Northern Youths).
The Deputy Senate President of NANS, Kabiru Aminu, presented the award, emphasizing that Ridwan was nominated due to his substantial contributions to the development of students and youths nationwide. Aminu praised Ridwan’s philanthropic efforts, particularly in empowering women and youths and promoting the Islamic religion.
“Ridwan is a God-fearing, upright, and generous individual whose mission is to help the underprivileged and empower the youths of Nigeria,” Aminu stated.
AYFL President Abdulmalik Zakari highlighted that the association seeks to recognize individuals excelling in community development and nation-building. He noted that Ridwan’s exceptional traits are rare in contemporary Nigeria, warranting recognition and honour.

“This award and title serve as motivation to encourage Ridwan to continue his good work and inspire others to emulate him,” Zakari added. “We also have a huge burden of expectation on you; we know you have the capacity. What you are doing aligns with the yearnings and aspirations of the Northern youths.”
Islamic cleric Prof. Mansur Yalwa advised Ridwan to continue his philanthropic efforts for the sake of God rather than for praise and awards. He commended the organizers for recognizing individuals like Ridwan, whose contributions to both Islamic and Western education can motivate others to do better.
In his acceptance speech, Ridwan expressed his gratitude to NANS and AYFL for the honour. He affirmed that his philanthropic activities are driven by his faith as a Muslim, which enjoins him to help others.
“Nowadays, people don’t like helping their neighbours, family, or community. When they see someone helping, they often perceive political gain in it. To be honest, I am not doing this because I want to join politics or vie for any political office,” Ridwan said.
The ceremony, marked by heartfelt speeches and commendations, celebrated Ridwan’s dedication to humanitarian service and his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those around him.
