ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago has urged Muslims to sustain prayers for peace and prosperity in the country, as they mark the beginning of the Islamic year.
The Governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, to felicitate with Muslims on the News Islamic year 1446 AH also urged them to be more devoted to the worship of Allah.
“He encouraged them to sustain their prayers for an enduring peace in the State and the country at large.
“While acknowledging the significance of the Islamic New Year to Muslims, the farmer Governor stressed the need for all adherents of Islam to continue to imbibe the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Hadith as well as be ambassadors of peace and unity,” the statement said.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It is one of the four sacred months of the year when warfare is banned. It precedes the month of Safar.
The tenth of Muharram is known as Ashura, an important day of commemoration in Islam.
