The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on Wednesday celebrated the African culture, with members of staff exhibiting traditional attires peculiar to different ethnic groups in the country.
The cultural day celebration, held at the hospital’s premises at Idi-Araba in Lagos, was part of activities to commemorate LUTH at 60.
Speaking, LUTH’s Board Chairman, Isa Bello Sali said that LUTH was an old institution and a good health care provider in the country.
Sali said that Nigeria would continue to be united noting that diversity was the key thing.
He said that unity in diversity was very important and hoped that Nigeria would use the diversity to develop the country.
According to him, national integration is a product of unity in diversity.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode said there was every reason to celebrate.
Bode, who was represented by Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), said that every tribe was represented in LUTH and had always worked together in unity.
He said that there had never been any ethnic problem in LUTH, hence, the need for the institution to showcase that.
He said that four ethnic groups from the Southsouth, Southeast, Southwest and Northern region would display their dances, foods among other things and that there would be a winner.
According to him, the institution has to appreciate all stakeholders who have contributed to LUTH’s development and reward members of staffs whether retired or still in service.
Also Dr Babajide Grillo, Director of Administration, LUTH, said that LUTH was celebrating its members of staffs, achievements and future.
Grillo said that LUTH had turned diversities into opportunities.
He said that the diversities were there but in brotherhood, the institution stands.
