ASHENEWS reports that lawmakers in Kaduna State have pledged their support for the procurement and distribution of Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) as part of efforts to combat malnutrition and anaemia across the state.
This commitment was contained in a communique issued at the end of a one-day policy dialogue convened by the Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN).
The dialogue aimed to secure increased funding and strategic interventions for MMS to address the pressing challenge of malnutrition in the state.
CS-SUNN emphasized that malnutrition remains a critical issue in Nigeria, with the 2023 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) revealing alarming statistics on anaemia’s prevalence and its devastating impact on women and children.
According to the communique, the participants agreed to among other measures ensure that Kaduna State Government creates an account for all funds for Nutrition activities, effectively leverage partner’s support in the fight against malnutrition as well as expand the membership of nutrition stakeholders to capture respective Legislative Members.
This is in addition to leveraging Economic Planning Board meetings in the fight against malnutritionas well as ensuring cultural reorientation to improve nutrition.
“The policy dialogue successfully laid the foundation for actionable commitments to combat malnutrition and anaemia through the adoption and implementation of MMS strategies.
“By fostering collaboration among Legislative, Executive and relevant stakeholders, this initiative seeks to create an enabling environment for improved nutrition outcomes in Kaduna state,” CS-SUNN added.
