The Kebbi State Government has unveiled a plan to digitise its civil service to improve service delivery.
Governor Nasir Idris disclosed this while declaring open a 10-day digital training programme for 2,000 civil servants at the ultra-modern State Secretariat in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
The workshop aims to enhance effective and efficient service delivery through digitisation.
The governor reminded the workers that the present administration belongs to them and urged them to sustain their support and cooperation.
“Nobody is better than you as far as this administration is concerned. Some people said a labour leader and a teacher cannot run the affairs of the state. But with God Almighty and your support, today a teacher is steering the affairs of this state,” he said.
Gov. Idris said the training was designed to give workers a sense of belonging and create a conducive environment for them to work efficiently.
He promised to improve workers’ welfare through schemes such as car, motorcycle, and housing loans, among others.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the governor said it had renovated, reconstructed, and furnished over 2,000 schools, rehabilitated and equipped 22 hospitals, renovated 192 primary healthcare centres, abolished casualisation by absorbing all casual workers, and recruited 5,244 workers across various sectors.
He noted with satisfaction that his administration does not owe any salaries, pensions, gratuities, or death benefits, and remains up to date in the payment of all entitlements.
The governor added that Kebbi State has implemented the new minimum wage of N75,000, which is above the federal government’s N70,000.
He urged civil servants to continue supporting government policies and programmes for better service delivery.
The State Head of Service, Malami Shekare, thanked the governor for providing a conducive working environment and for prioritising the training and retraining of civil servants. He assured the governor of the workers’ full support and cooperation.
The Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Mohammad-Sakaba, commended the governor for initiating the training. He said the e-governance programme would equip civil servants with the necessary digital skills for modern public administration.
About 2,000 junior and middle-cadre workers are participating in the training.
The event featured the presentation of the “Digital Governor” award to Governor Idris by the Commissioner.
