Prof. Abdullahi Usman, the head of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), said the media played an important role in showing a good image of Islam during the just concluded Hajj.
He said this during a farewell dinner held on Sunday in Makkah for the NAHCON media team.
Usman explained that the dinner was to thank and celebrate the media representatives for their hard work in making the 2025 Hajj successful.
“We are here to celebrate our success in this Hajj. We thank Allah and thank all of you,” he said.“I truly appreciate your support.
You are our eyes and our voice to the world. You have done a great job. We thank you and thank Allah for making it possible for us to work together,” he added.
Prof. Abubakar Yagawal, NAHCON’s Commissioner in charge of media and research, also praised the media for their excellent work during the 2025 Hajj.
He said this year’s media performance was much better than previous years.“Your job is powerful. With your words, you can turn lies into truth or truth into lies.
But this year, you chose to support NAHCON positively. You helped improve our image,” he said.
Yagawal recalled that last year, the media did not give much positive coverage, but this year things were different.“Last year was hard, but this year, from Medina to Makkah, your reports have been very good and supportive,” he said.
Prince Anofi Elegushi, another commissioner at NAHCON, also thanked the media for sharing NAHCON’s achievements during the Hajj.“I want to sincerely thank you for the great job you’ve done.
Your work doesn’t stop here in Saudi Arabia, and we trust you will continue to show our positive efforts,” he said.
NAHCON’s finance commissioner, Malam Aliyu Abdulrasaq, praised the media for being truthful and fair in their reporting.“You don’t just write stories—you write the truth,” he said.
“Fair reporting helps the country, and with your honest work, you are fighting against those who try to mislead people.”“Once again, thank you for the great work,” he added.
