ASHENEWS reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state has asked the state government to immediately commence the distribution of palliatives to residents to cushion the hardship faced by many.
Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, the Publicity Secretary, of the PDP in the state disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the PDP, the current government was currently focusing its attention on the cosmetic beautification of GRAs and the seat of power, while the predicaments of thousands of citizens remain unattended to.
“This is sadly coupled with the complete silence from the government on the recently Federal Government allocated N5 billion palliative fund to states, which our state has since collected.
“We demand that Ahmed Aliyu commences, without delay, the process of distributing the Federal Government relief to needy citizens, like his many counterparts across the country.
“This will cushion the hardships being experienced by the people in Sokoto State, not only due to the withdrawal of petrol subsidies but also the refusal of the State Government to pay the salaries of a large section of teachers and health workers for several months.
The party also accused the government of insensitivity to the plights of communities, especially in the eastern part of the state which has been bedeviled by insecurity.
“The PDP, just like all other right-thinking and worried citizens of our state, views the loud silence and total inaction of the Ahmed Aliyu administration on the routine loss of lives in the affected communities as grossly insensitive.
“We can recall that the last visit to any affected area by the Governor was over 70 days ago, following intense pressure from our party and other well-meaning commentators in the state.”
