ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Government has signed an agreement with FutureCamp, a renowned management consulting firm based in Germany to tap into the potential of the green economy.
The signing ceremony, held on the sidelines of the global climate summit, was led by the Secretary to the State Government, Usman Abubakar.
Also in attendance were Nigeria’s Ministers of Regional Development, Power, and Environment.
Recall that the Niger State Government as part of efforts to transition to a green economy, established the Niger State Agency for Green Initiatives (NGSAGI) in September 2024.
The agency is tasked with implementing the state’s blueprint for a sustainable future and activating its carbon market potential.
FutureCamp, a Munich-based consulting firm founded in 2001, specializes in carbon markets and climate policies.
Under the agreement, the firm will assist Niger State in building the technical capacity required to attract over N1 trillion in resources and investments.
This includes developing institutional and regulatory frameworks, establishing a carbon registry, and forging global partnerships for carbon market activities.
Furthermore, the collaboration also supports Nigeria’s broader climate goals, aligning with the Paris Agreement and the nation’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Speaking during the event, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, lauded Niger State’s proactive approach, urging other sub-national governments to emulate its model.
“The tools, data, and technical capacity provided through this partnership will not only benefit Niger State but also strengthen Nigeria’s overall strategy for leveraging Article 6 carbon markets to achieve sustainable development,” the minister emphasized.
