The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Sokoto State Chapter, on Monday held a praise and prayer service for peace in the state and across the nation.
The interdenominational event, themed “Jesus Is Alive,” took place at Deeper Life Bible Church, Sokoto, drawing respected clerics and thousands of worshipers who prayed for God’s intervention in Nigeria’s challenges.
Addressing the gathering, Sokoto State CAN chairman, Dr. Kayode James Moses, said, “We have come together this Easter to lift our voices in praise and to intercede for peace in our land.”
He emphasized that Easter confirms that neither death nor the grave could defeat Jesus, who rose triumphantly on the third day. “This resurrection is a declaration of victory over sin, death, and the powers of darkness,” he added.
“Today, as we celebrate this resurrection power, we declare that the same Jesus who conquered the grave is still alive and at work in Sokoto State, Northern Nigeria, and across our nation. He is our hope, strength, and peace amid every storm.”
Kayode noted that despite challenges faced by Christians in Nigeria, they remain united as one family—Catholics, Protestants, Pentecostals, Orthodox, and other denominations—under CAN, a testimony to their resilience and faith.
“In a region where being a Christian sometimes comes at a cost, you have chosen to stand and declare: ‘Jesus is Alive!’ This gathering is more than an event; it is a declaration of faith, a fellowship of believers, and a corporate cry for peace in Sokoto and Nigeria.”
On the worsening security situation, Kayode stated, “We cannot gather without acknowledging the insecurity that plagues our state and much of the North. Banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks have caused fear, pain, and loss to many families. Yet even in this darkness, we remember that Jesus is Alive! He is the Prince of Peace. He calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee, and He can bring peace to our troubled land. We pray for divine intervention and call on the government, security agencies, and stakeholders to act with wisdom and commitment.”
Dr. Ben Musa, chairman of the CAN Easter Prayer Planning Committee, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success. He highlighted that Nigeria’s challenges require both prayer and action from those responsible for protecting lives and property.
Professor John Babatunde Olabode urged Nigerians to pray for leaders, while also calling on leaders to act justly regardless of religion, region, or creed.
During the prayers, Professor Umar Kiro Kalgo led sessions in Fulfude and Hausa, while Senior Apostle Leo Nwasunwun and others prayed in English.
