The Nigerian Army, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta says it has handed over substance suspected to be hemp weighing 223Kg to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun Command.
The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Lt. Mohammed Goni said this in a statement on Wednesday.
Goni said the troops of the brigade last Friday intercepted a Mazda bus marked NRK 622 SB conveying the 441 pawpaw sized substance at Mologbede village in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
He said the brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Aminu, commended the troops for their efforts, urging them to continue to remain vigilant in their various locations.
Aminu represented by the Officer Commanding 35 Provost Company, Maj. Gadzama Abdullahi, reiterated the brigade’s continuous efforts in collaborating with other security agencies to rid the state of crimes.
Similarly, the state Commander, NDLEA, Jane Odili, commended the synergy between the military and other security agencies in state.
Odili noted that the military had been very supportive of the NDLEA operations which had led to significant successes achieved by the agency.
She, however, said this was not the first time such large quantity of hemp was intercepted by the military and handed over to the agency.
