The Appeal Court sitting in Akure has upheld the victory of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State as the winner of Oct. 10, 2020 governorship election in the state.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede had approached the appellate court, alleging that Akeredolu’s nomination by his party was unconstitutional.
The Justice Umar Abubarkar-led three man panel of the tribunal, had on April 20, dismissed Jegede’s prayer on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction on the matter.
The appeal court judge, Justice Theresa Orji-Abadua, in a virtual judgment, upheld the judgment of the tribunal, which validated the re-election of Akeredolu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Orji-Abadua, who led the five man panel, said the case filed by Jegede lacked merit.
