Alleged Imprisonment: I am not in jail, Nollywood Actress, Funmi Lawal declares

Developing news on the current situation between popular Nollywood actress, Funmi Lawal and Prophet Oladele Isreal Ogundipe of the Genesis Global Celestial Church of Christ, has led the popular actress debunking reports that Prophet Ogundipe has sentenced her to jail.

Funmi Lawal, who spoke exclusively  with Hotnewsnaija.ng on phone, declared that she is alive, free, healthy and not in jail.

“I am not in jail. Although, I cannot speak to you on the case because it is court. I am fine and hearty,” she said.

Recall that on 9th October, 2020, Hotnewsnaija.ng reported that a Magistrates Court in Lagos, opened a case against the Nollywood actress for conspiring with other persons to commit felony with the publication of defamatory matter, contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

In addition, Funmi Lawal was charged for injuring the reputation of Prophet Ogundipe by exposing him to hatred, contempt or ridicule or likely damage his profession as a prophet by uploading his video and audio recordings on social media networks and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 375 of the Criminal Code Act Cap C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

On the other hand, the investigating officer in charge of the case, Inspector Ajulo, has confirmed that the popular actress is not in jail.

“She is not in jail. Funmi Lawal is on bail as the case is ongoing. She even called me 3 days ago. How can somebody in jail called me? Although, there was a petition against her and other people (Including one Eniola coupled with some persons in UK and US) for alleged defamation of character. The case is still in court,” he said.
