LYS Academy Bauchi emerged the overall best of the 10 selected schools that competed in the just concluded Children Creative Station workshop held in Bauchi.
Organised by the National Troupe of Nigeria, Dolphin Maria came second and Al Hilan schools took 3rd position.
The children Creative Station started three weeks ago with 10 schools participating in drama in performing arts.
At the grand performance, which took place at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Governor Bala Abdulkadir, was awarded pillar of Children Creative Excellence.
He said for peaceful coexistence, his administration respects the diversity of Nigeria and the people especially those who reside in the state.
Mohammed said his administration considered as important, promotion of culture, tourism and tradition in order to maintain mutual understanding among the citizens of the state.
He applauded the National Troupe of Nigeria for staging the 8th edition of the Children’s Creative Station Workshop in the state.
“The state government will continue to partner the National Troupe of Nigeria so as to inculcate and promote unity in diversity among students of public schools through the use of drama.
“I acknowledge the support of UNICEF to the State in the areas of education, health and other critical sectors of economy and therefore the state will support the implementation of the National Troupe of Nigeria activities in the state”.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed who commended the state government for its support to the workshop, said the children Creative Station will the educational capacity of the students.
The Minister who spoke through the Artistic Director and chief Executive Officer, National Troupe of Nigeria, Ahmed Mohammed said the programme targeted at children of primary school age is to promote communication through drama.
Director of Dance National Troupe of Nigeria, Mr Shayibu Hassan said this year’s theme for the Children’s Creative Station is “Unity in Diversity as Nigerians”, are now divided based on regional, ethnic and religious lines.
“Our appeal your excellency is for your administration the ensure that diversity of cultural expression is inculcated in the schools curriculum by introducing theatre, while young people who wish to follow a career in the performing arts should be trained and mentored especially those on public schools”.
