The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajuddeen Abbas, has secured N5 billion worth of Federal Government intervention projects for Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engr. Jameel Ahmad Muhammad, during a courtesy visit to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kabiru Bala.
According to the Chairman, several development projects have already been executed at the university’s Kongo Campus, including the installation of a solar mini grid and the rehabilitation of the sports complex. He added that the intervention has now been extended to the Samaru campus.
Engr. Jameel revealed that the Speaker will fund the construction of a new Faculty of Social Sciences building and other projects recommended by the university management. He also noted plans to renovate more facilities at the Kongo Campus.
An alumnus of the institution, Engr. Jameel expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for their hospitality.
In his remarks, Prof. Bala commended the Speaker’s efforts, noting that the Faculty of Social Sciences was not initially part of the university’s master plan, having emerged from the former Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
The Vice-Chancellor called on contractors, Laralec Ultimate Limited, to uphold quality standards during the execution of the projects, emphasizing that ABU prioritizes functionality over aesthetics.
“We would rather not have the projects than compromise on quality,” Prof. Bala said, urging other alumni to emulate the Speaker’s gesture and contribute to the development of the university.
Present at the courtesy visit were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Raymond Bako; and representatives of the Registrar and Bursar, as well as other senior officials.
