The PDP Assurance Group, a pro-Atiku Abubakar political organisation has faulted the party’s committee for zoning presidential ticket to the Southern Nigeria.
Speaking with a group of journalists in Sokoto on Saturday, the Coordinator of the group, Murtala Dahiru said the presidential ticket should be left open for credible aspirants to contest because zoning is unconstitutional.
According to him, zoning of presidential ticket cannot produce credible leadership in Nigeria, adding that political parties and key players were causes of current political problems in the country.
“We should avoid politics of religion, tribe or section. All Nigerians need is anyone with the qualities and competence irrespective of background to salvage democratic dividend thirsty citizens.
“PDP should also know that Nigerians are fast clamouring for return of the party to power and for that, the party should provide a level play ground for interested candidates from all parts of the country to participate in its primaries and whoever emerges,should be supported to victory.
“It is truly undemocratic for our politics to take the dimension of zoning at this time of our current challenges with outright failure of the state to secure the lives of its citizens with the crumbling economy occasioned by high cost of living, unemployment and naira depreciation,” Dahiru said.
He called on Nigerians, especially the youths to rally round former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who he described as patriotic Nigerian.
“Atiku has been a supportive model to so many young Nigerians through businesses he established.
“No fewer than 50,000 to 60,000 Nigerians have gainfully secured jobs in Faro Water Company, ABTI University, Radio/TV Gotel, Animal Feeds Production company, among many others including in the oil and gas.
“Atiku is a socioeconomic fortune multiplier factor . In him is a leader and man of the people with team spirit for Nigeria’s development. We should see the wisdom in him and rise to support his person as next choice for the country,” Dahiru further said.
