Yobe state government and Salmuftah Investment Nigeria Ltd., have signed a N14 billion contract to procure farm inputs and equipment.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ali Mustapha Goniri, stated this in an interview in Damaturu on Tuesday.

According to him, the inputs include assorted fertiliser, seeds and agrochemicals.

He said that multi-purpose threshers; mini tillers, ploughing machines, hand push planters, sprayers and solar-powered pumps with panels would be provided under the contract agreement.

Goniri said the ministry would also purchase 200 units of motorcycles for zonal inspectors, empower women with goats and renovate its offices at Potiskum; Gashu’a, Nguru, Geidam, Damaturu, Buni-Yadi, among others.

This, he said, was part of efforts by Yobe state to revitalise agriculture for job creation and food security.

He, therefore, charged the contractor, Ahmad Haruna, to justify the confidence reposed in him by supplying quality items in line with the contract agreement and specifications.

Yobe is a state located in northeastern Nigeria. A mainly agricultural state, it was created on 27 August 1991. Yobe State was carved out of Borno State.

The capital of Yobe State is Damaturu, and its largest city by population is Potiskum.

The state borders four states: Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, and Jigawa. Yobe State shares borders with Borno State to the east for about 421 km, Gombe State to the south for 140 km (in the vicinity of Gongola River), Bauchi State for 188 km (117 miles) and Jigawa State for 193 km (120 miles) to the west and the Republic of Niger to the north for about 352 km.
